Preserving twig samples for endophyte studies?

When sampling tree twigs for isolation of endophytic fungi, twigs must be processed within short time after sampling, usually 2-3 days as most literature say. Is there anyway to keep twigs for longer time before isolation? Has anyone tried this?

Hello Masoomeh!

I only have an addition to what Hani Antoun has mentioned and that is to use glycerol/DMSO as cryoprotectant when samples are frozen.
