My topic is the effects of climate and land use change on reservoir management, quantity and quality of water. Please help me to use the hydrologic models: swat and hec-hms models. Considering the lack of proper data in the Tajan watershed, which of these models is a better aid in the run-off modeling and land use and climate effects on runoff and water quality (preferably the TDS parameter, due to the lack of suitable nitrate data and Phosphate)??

Considering geological setting of the studied area is important.
for run-off modeling you can use Hec-HMS but for water quality, i don't know you can use it or not. for water quality i suggest you qual2kw.

From your question, it sounds like you want to do a more comprehensive analysis on water quality, despite the lack of data. Assuming your analysis focus on agricultural areas, I'd suggest you to use SWAT in order to future-proof your effort. According to the most recent HEC-HMS manual (version 4.3), nutrient water quality has been turned off (http://www.hec.usace.army.mil/software/hec-hms/documentation/HEC-HMS_Users_Manual_4.3.pdf; p.143), although sediment analysis can still be done using the same approach as SWAT (i.e., MUSLE) . Also, the HEC setup gets a bit technical on the engineering side and reports in the literature are not as widely available as the SWAT ones. Besides the large amount of SWAT papers available, you can consult SWAT users through its Google group (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/swatuser). These resources are a good support if you are new to hydrological modelling.
