Can anyone explain what is the purpose of the option "interpolate between mid-side node" in the predefined field
1.When should we use that?
2.If we transfer a heat transfer analysis(element type: DC3D8) temperature results to calculate the stress in static general analysis(C3D8) with the same mesh, do I need to consider the option?
3.I have observed a drastic change in stress values(more accurate) at the boundary nodes when considering the mid-side node option. What might be the reason?
NB: The problem I tried to solve was welding in a plate with symmetric boundary condition and moving heat flux

As you use compatible meshes of linear 8-node elements which have no midside nodes, you shouldn’t toggle "interpolate between midside node" on. This option is used to interpolate midside temperatures from corner node values when original mesh consists of linear elements while current mesh consists of quadratic ones.
It is an interesting question what is Abaqus doing when this option is on in the case of linear elements.

Yes, this is what I actually understood in the documentation.The mid-side node plays a role only when we go for second-order elements.
The question arose when I imported the heat transfer results to the stress analysis results to find out the residual stress in welding. If I did not toggle on the mid-side node(linear), the stress at the elements along the weld line is getting tensile.

If I consider the elements with reduced integration(linear), I will get compressive stress at the weld line, which I expect the stress to be. I wonder what might be the reason for the same

The issue resolved without mid-side node.It was due to increment selection
