Possible to conduct PCR using hematocrit sample?

Does anyone have experience running an RT-PCR for pathogen detection from samples of (deer) hematocrit? A collaborator is offering the spun blood tubes left over after sera collection (used for a different project).

Is it possible to resuspend the coagulated blood? Perhaps treat it like a "tissue" and use a bead lysis protocol?

Appreciate any responses!
