Yes, a good friend and tourist specialist said to me that health care capacities are fully reached out and that he fears an economic breakdown of Portugal, his native country and location of family. I live currently in Bavaria, with hard lockdown and curfew in the nighttime; healthcare capacities are not exhausted, but the economy is suffering already and things are no more stable as they used to be.
According to this article “Twenty percent of the population lives in poverty or social exclusion, a very significant figure, and after such a long pandemic their limited resources have been used up. As a result, their ability to follow [the lockdown] rules has gone up in smoke.”
Unfortunately, Aljazeera describes the situation we are living in Portugal very accurately. And numbers are worsening by the day. Thanks for contributing Professor Frank T. Edelmann . Keep safe.
In India, situation is under control. Lockdown has been lifted, and people are now moving freely. Currently, India's COVID-19 recovery rate is nearly 97 per cent. The mass vaccination drive started from January 16, 2021 in the country is successfully under progress.
Dear Mohialdeen Alotumi I agree with you in that the overall situation in Yemen is much worse because COVID-19 only adds to the general humanitarian crisis in this (your) country. Please see e.g. this article entitled
Yemen remains 'worst humanitarian crisis': UN office
^^ The latest COVID-19 stats for Croatia (6:31 PM CET 28/1/2021)

The situation uder control in my country Pakistan. Because of the activenss of govt as well as our citizens regarding followup the SOPs and other care of COVID-19 spread.
AlhamdulilAllah, Pakistan is doing much better. Possible reasons could be weather, awareness through social media, Different life styles in rural and urban areas, less business hubs, government seriousness about the issue, and the majority of public is independent of government medical facilities. BCG could be a factor.
The corona situation in Portugal is getting worse every day because of the rapid spread of the UK coronavirus variant. Normal life is currently almost impossible in this country. Please see e.g. this recent article entitled
""No end in sight": Portugal's hospitals on brink as COVID cases surge"
Dear Patrícia Alves personally I can't wait getting vaccinated against COVID-19. In my country, Germany, three different vaccines have already been approved, but they are scarce. Please see e.g. this link entitled "Scarce doses and empty vaccination centres: Germany's vaccine rollout headache"
According to this link "Germany's military (Bundeswehr) is preparing to deploy medical personnel and equipment to Portugal as the country struggles to cope with a surge in coronavirus cases, the defense ministry in Berlin announced on Sunday."
Thank you for adding information to this discussion. The issue of accepting international help has been discussed in Portugal, Frank T. Edelmann . Stay safe.
Dear Patrícia Alves Currently in Germany the coronavirus infections counts are constantly decreasing, but there is a great fear oft the new mutations of the virus. Please see these recent links entitled
"Explained: Where have Covid-19 mutations in Germany been detected?"
to my knowledge the corona situation in Portugal is the worst in all of Europe right now. You need to consider that Portugal is a relatively small country with a bit more than 10 million inhabtants as compared to Germany with ca. 83 millions. Thus an infection count of e.g. 16,000 new COVID-19 infections in Portugal in 24 hours would correspond to ca. 120,000 new infections in Germany!
Right now a unit of the German military (Bundeswehr) is in Portugal to help the country with the very critical corona situation. Please see this vers recent link entitled
"Coronavirus: Portugal welcomes German military medics"
According to this link "German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer earlier said Portugal is "in a particularly dramatic situation" and that "in such times, solidarity in Europe is indispensable.""
According to this report even on the remote Azores islands "11 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, totalling 3,561 infections and 25 deaths."
Today in Germany the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 14,211 new infections with the coronavirus. This is 3,342 less than one week ago. 786 patients died with or of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. In the same time 105,677 people received a vaccine shot. Meanwhile 2,713,210 people in Germany have been vaccinated thus far
I live in Kenya and no single day passes without people contracting the diseases. It is so scary but we are trying to follow the WHO guidelines and protocols.
Today in Germany the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 11,589 new infections with the coronavirus. This means that 193,532 Germans are currently infected with COVID-19. The R-value is 0.88. 773 patients died with or of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, resulting in a total of 60,888 fatalities in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic.
