I am looking to meta-analyze the differential effects of physical abuse and neglect on depression in a meta-analysis. If I come across a study the reports a correlation between a continuous measure of physical abuse and depression, and a separate continuous measure of neglect and depression, both using the total sample size, can I include both of these in the same meta-analysis?
As long as you describe exactly what you do so that somebody else can repeat to get the same result you can do it and write the reference twice.
I would advice do seperate analyses on physical abuse and neglect for two reasons. The same population shouldn't be counted twice in a meta-analysis, and physical abuse and neglect are to different entities. Being physically abused is very different from not being provided with clothing, food, medical care etc.
