In todays world we see an increasing level of aversion towards science and scientists in general. Polititians often create narratives that goes against the consensus of the reaearch community, and science and scientists are often seen as the enemy of the people. The current state of American politics is a prime example of this. Why do you think this is, is there any future for science in the public discourse or is science becomming less and less relevant in the eyes of the general public? If so, what can or even should be done about it?

For you see, nowaday authoritative intrepidity of temporal orthodoxy is all-time, social economics has to pay them all the necessity, whereas, how much living development of science can proportionably pay back to social economics? such as the Big Bang, Black Hole Theory, Dark matter theory, gravitational wave discovery, and so on. They are hoax and hoax under egotistic guide of temporal science aristocrat who are mostly the second-string geniuses of the age!!

Devlopment comes with science and technology. Society enjoys the fruit of science and tecnology. In political arena, scientists are often marginalized. How ever top scientists are somtimes given the post of presidency of a country. Political games are often not well suited to scientists. I think polymaths may well do in science and politics.
Today I think that Politics is driving science significantly. I think the solution is that the policy makers are scientists.

I do not think that the aversion to science has increased, what happens is an arbitrary handling of the information. This has always happened, but with the mass media, manipulation is easier now.

I think the relation between them started to be less than before.
Good science needs much time, money and educational effort; it cannot be produced via the economic assembly line or ad hoc policies.
The political machinery is in every more developed nation or state much greater than the scientific sector, i.e. scientists are a social minority and mostly employees. Politics is the shadow of big business (J.Dewey) and real scholarship is not compatible with political decision-making, due to the mentioned temporal factors involved. The controversial debates about the virus mirror this existential tension between politics and science; politics, being done by humans, will always imply mistakes and errors, which can be hopefully corrected, after a certain time; science can help to provide information, but specialization makes this difficult, e.g. virology goes via the microscopic view, the epidemiologist sees the mathematical model, ..., but politics has to decide which public behavioral preventions may work. Much better communication between all sectors of society is required, i.e. professional media and journalism are most important to preserve human liberty, at the moment.
Very interesting discussion. At the end of the day science and scientists solve human problems, I can’t always say that for poltics and politicans. Covid 19 vaccine and treatment for that matter can not be developed through politicing. Here in Uganda the government has decided to put more emphasis of science ans scientists due to their role in the fight against covid 19. I don’t know how effective it will be though; it could just be a political move..
It is not really a break with science but a break with reason and logic. The first case that I remember was a TV panel discussion under the Nixon administration about segregation. One panelist cited laws and studies; the Nixon rep said I don't care, this is what I believe. and that was the beginning of the end.
In fact the current state of world politics is driving much more of science significantly. More researchers, no political decision is made before clear analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data and more of the policy makers in the world are almost scientist in all spheres @ Henrik G.S Arvidsson
Because the philosophical foundations of science in the United States and some other countries It creates such a situation. A science that only serves wealth and power will have no other result
