Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate is usually used in cell culture as a tumor inducer. What is a common solvent for PMA if eventually it must be added to a cell culture with medium?
PMA can be made in DMSO solvent as a stock solution. Stock solution may be aliquoted and stored at -20°C. You may then prepare working solution to be used in cell culture in serum free medium or aqueous buffer. The final concentration of DMSO in the culture should not exceed 0.1% as this is considered to be safe without any toxicity for almost all cells.
