I need to find deforestation in a forest with change in past 2 decades. Please tell whether NDVI change detect will serve the purpose upto a high quality journal paper?
I don't think there is an easy way to do anything regarding vegetation classification, though NDVI/SAVI sound easy initially. If you can't find independent data for the 20 yr situation in order to check the image classification, is it a safe assumption that 'there was no deforestation' 20 yrs ago? (probably not)
There is a LOT of work done on identifying and quantifying deforestation in the Amazon that has developed a lot of methods for dealing with secondary growth and agricultural growth within the cleared forest (two of the reasons its not easy). I would consult that literature carefully.
I expect that peer reviewers will focus more on how you deal with those factors, and with precipitation differences in the months prior to the scenes you are classifying than simply on how well you do the NDVI/dNDVI classification.
