Please help in order to obtain sprouting of wheat seeds very fast with complete soaking and chilling treatment alone. What combination and how long? For Hydroponics experiment.
You can start a preliminary experiment with different soaking times as 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 30 and 36 together with low temperatures such as 5, 10, 12, 15 and 18 to know the fastest way for sprouting, Because the conditions of the experiment vary from one place to another, the species or class of seeds and their ability to imbibe water due to hull thickness or permeability. You can determine by yourself with vast range of low temperature and soaking time.
I am a little confused here. I have a couple of questions (assuming all seed are good):
1. Will it makes any difference when use 'Spring wheat seeds' or 'Winter wheat seeds'?
2. From your answer, it sounds like that 'chilling' treatment is not necessary or needed to germinate wheat seeds. Do you think that 'chilling' is needed if it only shortens the germination time for only 1-2 days?
3. Will chilling treatment increase 'germination rate' and 'synchronize germination time' on wheat seeds? in other words, is the primary functions of 'chilling' treatment is to increase 'germination rate' and 'synchronize germination time'?
