It is generally known that a number of dyes are used in coloring tanned leather, specially azo dyes in several developing countries. These are toxic to nature, animals and human beings. Therefore, their removal from wastewater is required.
All azo dyes are not toxic. Most of the synthetic dyes of color index are contained azo group in their structure. Azo dyes which produce banned amine (carcinogenic) in reductive condition are toxic and banned by EU. As I know these type of azo dyes are not used for the coloration of leather or textiles.
