Hi Carlos Enrique Frasser, It may be a sheer coincidence that we are confronting a situation where the Planet's Pollution, Climate Change, Covid-19 are in front of us, simultaneously!!, the potential visible impact being "Poverty", as you have indicated. Apparently, this is a clear signal that we all should seriously consider, a signal indicating that human survival in the planet earth is at stake now more than earlier!!. To my mind, increasing pollution levels in the planet along with extreme climates with increasing drought events would imply declining food production as well as deterioration in the quality of food that would be available. On the other, the Covid-19 entails two scenarios of poverty: (a) poverty amidst plenty, where people are not able to procure/ access food due to lockdown and the loss of purchasing power due to lack of earnings caused by job loss in the short run; (b) poverty due to non-availability of all food items (whether it is vegetables, fruits, meat and meat products, fish, milk, etc) as a result of lack of adequate production / stoppage of urban/ peri-urban farming activities consequent on continued lockdown. In nutshell, the basic message I would take here is that 'we need to be wary about the changing life scenarios due to the three types of risks happening simultaneously'. It is also important to note that humanity worldover will have to anticipate such eventualities as a regular phenomena with increasing magnitude in their impacts on life on the planet earth, of all living beings.

Of course, even they are not only inter-related but also intra-related. For instance, Planet pollution and climate change is intra-related. Now, this pandemic seems leading those phenomenons relationship in tragedy way. So, post-covid-19, there should be a global re-structure in every aspects viz, policies, industrialization, technology and even social norms.

What do we know?

1. Concluding from the media we can localize the source of the COVID-19 virus at an unknown site in China

2. The current contamination and clean-up operation of the planet Earth is a global issue and not related to a single country only

3. Where you have wealth you also have poverty because resources are not extraterrestrial

4. The climate change has been impacting on the evolution of the Earth since almost 4.5 Ga long before the “homo sapiens” left its footprint on the Earth surface.

Why shall we create another “super pandemic” of anthropogenic and geogene issues?

All these issues belong to the most serious negative effects of a specific, dominant formula for the development of civilization. There are not many direct links between these problems. However, there are many more indirect connections, influences and correlations. Most connecting elements or areas of correlation are associated with negative aspects of the development of civilization that do not take into account the principles of sustainable, pro-ecological development, imperfect economic system, etc.

Thank you for your answers. As Mr. Mayank remarked if, during this pandemic, some ecological changes are going on that are beneficial to the health of our planet globally, I am happy. However, it is paradoxical, isn't it? In order for the planet to improve its ecological well-being, humanity has to live the global difficulties and consequences of a deadly virus. Totally valid for the health of our planet, but pretty unfair for the comfort of people. I think we have to be able to find an equilibrium point so that both the health of the planet and the comfort of people are protected and those are the policies I am talking about, they have to be implemented by the governments around the world. By the way, is it proved scientifically that the ozone hole has disappeared? Because this is very good news.

The issues to do with poverty, climate change, Covid-19 and poverty are interrelated. However, it is important to know that humans play a great role in propagating all of them despite the negative effects they all have to their welfare. My suggestion is the sustained control of these challenges can be realized through behavioural and lifestyle modification by humans at individual level.

I was taking a quick look at the document edited by the UN that you, Dear Parisa Ziarati, mention as a reference and the apart most impacted me is the one related to the coronavirus: While the origin of the outbreak and its transmission pathway are yet to be asserted, we know diseases passed from animals to humans (zoonotic diseases) are on the rise, as the world continues to see unprecedented destruction of wild habitats by human activity. "Nature is sending us a message with the coronavirus pandemic and the ongoing climate crisis." To complement that view, I think what is happening to us now is a kind of a response mechanism of Mother Nature (Mother Nature is wise) to defend itself from our lack of will to cooperate more with our planet and the environment. I think that now humanity is in big trouble because of that. Not a pessimistic feeling, but our reaction to try to solve this whole situation of the conservation and preservation of our planet for ourselves and the future generations has to be a priority and is a task that is our responsibility and concerns us all. I guess Carlos' question is more oriented to the interrelations of causes, more than interrelations of effects, which are obvious. I also agree there is a hidden chain of events causing Covid-19: individual egoism > unsustainable economy > high consumption society > global warming > biodiversity loss > collapse of biological firewalls releasing virus > unnatural HIV-CoV genome > present > frozen virus melting > irreversible tipping points crossed. Governments around the world need policies to break this solid chain of events from the first causing link.

On the other hand, the desire for economic growth has meant that the atmosphere is not taken care of, Lagos, nature reserves as referred to in the question. The sum of these factors, with economic inequality, and the expected response from nature has generated a pandemic that we always knew they could face, therefore, considering that there is a high and direct correlation.

I totally agree with you Dear Mr. Muhammed. Thank you. Your view and link are a powerful source of good information and a great input to this discussion. It is very scary what is happening around the cities close to the Arctic in Siberia, Russia. Cities located very close to the north pole with crazy summer temperatures of up to 38 degrees Celsius, something never saw in the known by us history of our planet's climate. Scientists were expecting this kind of changes to happen only at the end of the 21st century, our crazy century. But they are happening right now. Even worse dramatic climate changes around the world will be happening very soon and humanity has to be prepared to face it. But the biggest issue is that we are not, not even close. How to avoid or to be prepared in case it happens for a cataclysmic event like this terrifying one of global climate change and all its consequences? A difficult question to answer, doesn't it?
