I need to provide me with literature about phytochemical screening in Sargassum or some other brown algae. Is phytochemical screening a first approach to knowing antibacterial effects or neuropharmacological effects of marine algae extracts? Can this first approach be used as a crop policy for some kind of algae?
Habitat conditions can affect our concentrations of some substance in algae. Is it possible that we have implemented a policy of cultivating a specific algae and then in the tests we do not find the same result as in natural environments?

The second issue that you mention is very interesting. In fact, not many studies have worked on that (usually for testing biological properties of biomolecules from seaweeds, field samples are used and not cultured ones). In my laboratory we usually start with different kind of extracts (ethanolic, ethyl acetate, etc..) from field samples and then we derivate these ones to other labs according to the biological activity they want to test. If one of these ones is promising, then we collected more samples and the extract is purified and the fractions are tested and so on.
