Why is it that majority of high school students do not like Physics? Majority of Undergraduates science-related students also dislike Physics, why? Is it that Physics teachers/tutors/lecturers are not doing their job rightly? Or methodologies used in teaching seems complex? I want a great image for Physics as a Physicist.
Teachers greatly influence students attitude toward a particular subject. Teachers may be responsible. scientific research need to be done before any conclusions.
Disinterest, disengagement, cognitive shutdown on the part of students, is in part explained by the inability of Physics teachers and Physics Curriculum designers to relate Physics topics to everyday life. Physics is thus seen as something distant and esoteric, that bears no immediate relation to everyday life. Science teaching should foster an understanding that science is a public good. In this sense, there should be efforts towards public understanding and public engagement with science. Physical Science should not end in the classroom and laboratory, conferences and academies. As a public good, out-of-school scientific experiences should be in-built in the curriculum to address the disconnect with everyday knowledge and understanding, so that Physics is engaged and experienced in all publics.
