Phosphate free Buffers for SYTOX Green?

Hello! I am trying to use SYTOX green along with the autofluorescence of chlorophyll to determine the viability of micro algae in an Alginate Laponite hydrogel. Unfortunately there are some ordering problems at our lab and so I cannot order the recommended HBSS from thermo scientific. Are there any others that will work? Has anyone tried MES?
