Even if crop models have N or NPK interaction, pH greatly influence nutrients' availability, in particular micro-nutrients, which may reduce the yield even under adequate NPK supply, we need to identify the attainable yield under problem soil and thereafter predict the effects of stresses arising due to N, P and K, water and insects/pests.
None of the models handled this way to address problem soils.
Crop Nutrition experts need to be consulted and simple models on this aspects to be developed

Dear Dr.Kalra,your point is valid.In crop nutritional studies by crop/plant physiologists ,the soil part is always not properly taken care of.That is the reason for incomplete understanding of crop nutrition by soil fertility experts for efficient management of plant nutrients.That is the reason for my earlier suggestion(in different question) that the system of soil test calibration for nutrient recommendations should go for simulation modelling.Probably some efforts are being made in Canada in this direction.

I fully agree with your comments, and there is a need to include these aspects in the crop models with the help of experts like you, as well I will try to locate canadian work to further explore the ways to include pH mediated effects. Although our models are at the most include N, P and K, but indirectly capture the effects of other nutrients' availability affecting N, P and K procedure for problem soils (even including the saline/sodic soils too.

We have seen antagonistic relationships of N and K; P and Ca and Zn in rice.
now the major question is how to integrate within the model, which take only N in most of the models or N/P/K in DSSAT (but for N/P/K to be really calibrated/validated), and moreover pH induced availability of nutrients,

Dr.Kalra,K/Mg and K,Mg in relation to Ca is much investigated interactions.Ca has also interaction with B.P has interactions with S,Mo,Zn etc.N has interactions with P,K,S,Zn,mostly positive.ln mixed matrix,micronutriet cations have interactions among themselves.
I do not know how to capture so many interactions in models?
Dr Subba Rao, I too all the time think about this question raised by you, that how to take care about these interactions within a model, some of the approaches in model says that take the stress effect of the individual nutrient contributing the most stress, but that somehow is not convincing, for example if Zn is deficient even uptake efficiency of N is reduced, so many examples raised by you, we have to think together and bring some solution thanks for your valuable comments
