I'm reading about particle size (nanosize) and in an article they said: "The particle growth was monitored using UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy " I don't understand so well, how is it the peak of UV-Vis spectrum related with the particle size?
I only know, that if the peaks is width, this means that the nanoparticles presents polydispersity, that means that there are many particles with differents sizes.
In the case of metal nanoparticles the characteristic band called "surface plasmonic band" shifts depending on the size, but a stronger red shift is observed if you pass from spherical to other forms charactherized by some anisostropy, like rods, cages, stars...
If the nanoparticles you are considering are semiconducting ones, like quantum dots or titanium dioxide, the band gap between the valence and the conducting band will determine the lying of the absorption band: the more little is the nanoparticle size the higher will be the energy gap and consequently you will observe a blue shift
