I've been working with PLA nanoparticles forma drug delivery, but I had had some troubles with the synthesis: I have no changed anything in my procedure, and I got differents resulta: I mean, if I got a good size (~400 nm) I didn't got a good ccharge (I'm using polyethylenimine as a cationic agent). And if I got a positive charge, the size got worse (micrometers).. If someone of you know something about it, THANK YOU A LOT FOR YOUR HELP AND ADVICES.

Your system must be be very sensitive to temperature, stirring and salt
please control these parameters very carefully
Do you have any kind of a spectroscopic data that proves the purity of your products. If they are not identical in the manner of chemical content, which can be sourced from various reasons. Please firstly provide us with your spectroscopy results, any different signal from such data; NMR, FT-IR or GPC/SEC can be used to interpret the source of the overall problem. Please also check it up for the inorganic impurities as Mr. Ritter implied previously. ICP-MS or EDX can be used for this purpose.
you should studies the kinetics of growth of your system, and control all the experimental parameters: temperature, concentration, pH, ratio of reagents
You have to test and change a lot of parametrs, like the stirring time, the homogeneization rate and the concentrations of your solutions. Have tested a sonication ?
Already mentioned, control the parameters and provide some more info. But also consult and compare some literature with your procesdure and results. In the second info it seems the nucleaction has not been controlled, leading to bigger particles, as also mentioned by Rabah!
What kind of PEI molecules are you using? If it is a linear PEI, pH will be a primary concern as well as PEI:PLA ratios, mixing/Sonication condition, and temperature.
