The gastrointestinal tract is densely innervated by vagal parasympathetic innervation. Then density of innervation displays a rostra-caudal gradient (most dense in the stomach, least dense in the proximal colon).

What is the size of the terminal field of ONE vagal motor neuron (i.e. the motor neuron in the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus)? I cannot locate a reference for this.

Also, what is the size of the sympathetic terminal field in the GI tract (i.e. from the postganglionic neurons in the coeliac and mesenteric ganglia)?

Thanks.
