I'm doing a little research on CIP process using hyper ozonation, the question is if it is possible to do CIP on membranes such as those of UF, NF and RO instead of doing chemical cleaning. If you have any papers on this matter they will be pretty much appreciated.
Will the membranes be affected due to the high oxidizing potential of the ozone?

Dear Erick,
I believe that oxidizing agents such as ozone, KMnO4 and chlorine (Cl2) have the potential to damage NF & RO membranes. Therefore, ozone is not recommended for the Clean-in-place (CIP) of such membranes. Please see Table 1 in the publication contained in the following link:

Ozone will damage any membrane tested, however, cellulose acetate shows some resistance at low pH levels. This type membrane may resist low concentrations in systems designed for ozone disinfection.
