Out of the box means something atypical, not previously used or a new way that is generally ignored.
In the domain of on going computerization and software industry, when you come with a solution that is exceptional e.g. your solution is entirely new and different from the existing solutions and address the users need broadly irrespective of any special installation, configuration or modification.
Intuitively, If u think out-of-the-box idea, it means you are approaching problems in new, innovative ways i.e. conceptualizing problems differently and understanding your position in relation to any particular situation in a way you’d never thought of before.
Any Task/Problem/Project (TPP) researchers (let it be a software engineering team) are facing standard policies, technologies, techniques, architectures that have already been established and tested. However, either the task complexity, or resources limitation, or a tight TPP schedule rise various vulnerabilities to the threats risk level in getting things done according to the business set requirements.
Often, such situations require brain storm sessions where a team management gather together with best engineering minds to discuss/propose alternative approaches over a wide spectrum of the TPP issues. Such ideas are first recorded, and then thorough discussed over until a consensus is reached. Schematically, this is an out-of-the-box approach.
