I am conducting laboratory scale wet batch testing of different organic wastes in 15L digesters under mesophilic conditions. I have ran a preliminary test with a mix of fruit and veg waste and innocula from an operational biogas facility at an I:S ratio of 2:1 (VS basis). However based on 6kg of innocula, the organic loading was far too high and VFA inhibition occurred after the first 2 days.

I have found very few sources of organic loading limits for single feed wet batch digestion. From what I have found, a loading rate of 12-15kgVS/m3 was suggested but I cannot find anything more to support this.

Has anyone else conducted similar testing and if so what was the organic loading rate used to avoid immediate inhibition?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
