Hi everyone.

In literature exists a wide variety of different theoretical and empirical models for describing the evolution of hardness and elastic modulus of thin films as a function of the indentation depth in Depth-Sensing Indentation (DSI) experiments. You can find several examples of these kinds of models in the following link: https://nims.readthedocs.io/en/latest/models_thin_films.html

Thus, my concerns are: What is the most accurate or adequate model for this purpose?. Is there any universal model for describing this kind of mechanical properties of thin films? or, Is this issue very complex to propose a unified theoretical description?

This is a doubt I have not could solve for much time. So, I would like to hear the opinion of different experts in this field. Feel free to share any opinion!

Kind regards,

Simón Roa.
