Please refer the gene picture highlighted in Red in attachment. This gene is located on the negative strand (left to right in this case) of chromosome. Could you please tell me its promoter will be on right (P1) or left (P2) as mentioned in the figure.
I want to clone its promoter. Which side (p1 or p2) i should select?

in all species, promoters are always on 5' start of genes. without the species, knowing the gene is on the minus strand and seeing that positions are up, I would say that P1 is your promoter.

Positive DNA strand is the same as RNA that is translated into a protein (it is the strand that it typically shown in databases for individual genes as you can easily read the protein sequence from it). Negative DNA strand is the oposite one - this strand serves as the template for transcription into RNA.
So, if the gene is located on the negative strand (I assume this is with respect to other genes flanking your gene of interest; otherwise this does not make sense), then I would expect P1 to be the region where the promoter is.

If your species has a reference sequence in the NCBI, look for your genes in the refseq, all genes has a direction which is marked with arrows on the exon fragments.
