I did a project in which only one mould was casted to determine the compressive strength. Just now, I referred some journals and code books(IS516.1959) in which they said atleast three mould is to be casted for taking the average value. Is any solution is there to overcome this. Or do we have any correction factor to introduce
In all test is neccesary to know the experimental error make a minimum number of tests. Statistical soft (like Minitab) include a method to establish this minimun number (power and sample size), but I thinh that four or five test is a good minimun value.
At least a minimum of three samples is required in order to obtain a reliable compressive strength value. Is it an experimental project (in which case you would have to re-do the mixing and get enough samples) where strength values are an important part of your work? You could also use other indirect strength tests to compare with what your one sample gives you.

Any standard specifies a specific number of tests to eliminate the possible errors. So ideally you have to obey the number of tests specified by the standards you follow, but in reality, you can have it by just one specimen, but it basically depends on the quality of the specimens (i.e., how far you are an expert of sample preparation) and how you are familiar with the experiment. For a example, if you done so many tests of similar specimens and found almost same results before, then, you may feel that you are expert of sample preparation and may feel one specimen would be enough, but if your previous works suggest otherwise, you have to get the minimum number of tests the standard specifies. Even if you an expert, if this is a real construction project, I advice you to follow the standard otherwise you may be caught in some legal issues later.
