Currently, most of the reports show that the no. of Tx/Rx antennas for mMIMO (commercially deployed and tested) are upto128 (64T64R-TDD etc). Does anyone knows:
1. What is the number of Tx/Rx antennas in 3GPP Release-16?
2. What is the number of antennas in commercial 5G(5G+) BS in 3.5GHz?
Nokia AirScale 64T64R is a commercial radio, it has 64 cross-polarized antennas, 8 (horizontal) x 8 (vertical), It does have 128 antennas, 64 antennas per polarization. The distance between antenna elements is 57.5 mm (horizontal) x 80 mm (vertical). This radio can work in the 3.5 GHz band.
A 64T64R panel has 64 antennas, not 128. However, many of these panels seem to contain 128 radiating elements which are paired together into 64 antennas.

Diego Carrera: The Nokia AirScale 64T64R has 64 antennas, not 128 antennas. Each antenna consists of one RF chain (for transmission and reception) connected to two antenna elements.
It is expected that 5G FR2 systems will go up to 256 antennas, although most studies show that 64 seems to be sufficient.
The on-going work regarding DL MIMO in R16 is focusing on multi-panel and multi-beam scenarios.
There is discussion in 3GPP of down-scoping due to time constraints.
