I've been trying to get good samples from exfoliating graphite onto 300nm SiO2. My samples keep turning out very needle-like and streaky. The larger flakes are a good shape and size, but the thinner ones take on a very pointy shape. I'm following the method in the attached paper, which includes plasma cleaning the substrate and heating the tape after applying it. I've also attached an optical image of what my samples look like. The graphite sample I'm using is HOPG. I'm trying to get a flake 3-10 nm thick and at least 20x20um.
