Normalizing S, G2/M phase effect on H2AX?

When measure double strand breakage after drug treatment by gamma.H2AX, how do you normalize effect of cell cycle in S, G2/M phase. Or I don't have to?

If cells are more in S or G2/M phase, should H2AX be higher than normal?
