I would greatly appreciate further advice on sources to tap - apart from the BBC! - about the renewed conflict in the disputed Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. My dissertation is focusing on whether the 1992 conflict, where it seems there was Russian involvement, helped shape Azerbaijan's post Soviet national identity, and I wondered if Russia might be involved again now.

Hello.
Armenia is traditionally Russias alley in the region. Russia has many military bases in Armenia and trainees many of the armenians militare officers, especially the special forces.
Now where the Russian-Turkey relations are at the lowest point Russia will make their presens in Armenia and especially in Nakorno Karabakh more obvious.
Not to forget that Azerbaijan has tight ties with Turkey and is equiped from Turkey.
Reading the historical background of the these coutries, we will see that the interests of each of them is contra to the other.
Russias involvement is more than sure, because Armenia is Russias alley, it is another chance for Russia to provide their military strenght after the Syria envolvement.
To make it short, Russia makes a come back in the international arena in the best way representative of hard power. Russia is present in international level again and supports the term of great power.
