What happens with carbon stock in litter and in mineral soil of boreal forests after clear-cutting and how long does it take to restore carbon stock in litter and soil?
That's an interesting question. Recovery cycle depends upon the kind of land use pattern and parallel pressure of urban development , besides the nature and properties of soil...
What happens with carbon stock in litter and in mineral soil of boreal forests after clear-cutting - theoretically there may be an increase in microbial processing of organic material, as clearcutting will result in a deposit of fresh labile material from the harvesting process which will stimulate microbial activity. How long this lasts will depend on many different factors, from temperature, moisture, litter type, soil type and so on.
