I have a very sticky thick natural extract sample which dissolves in water but not in organic solvents. I am trying to extract volitile aroma compounds. We are usually using methylene chloride in our methods. However, when i add DCM to my sample dissolved in water during LLE, i get a thick creamy eluent which is no good for injection with GC-MS. I tried different solvents including scetone, methanol, ethanol, DCM, hexanes, but i get the same result. I have also tried adding much more water but it still didn’t help. I tried to dry that creamy eluent with sodium sulfate- it did absorb the “creamy” part leaving me with some liquid which i injected - but saw no peaks at all. What would be the best technique?
