Dear colleagues,

I am organizing a symposium at this years MS&T 2016 conference, which is going to take place from October 23rd-27th in Salt Lake City, USA (for details on the event in general, please have a look at www.matscitech.org).

Our symposium is dedicated to composites and complex materials produced by Additive Manufacturing - this includes homogeneous composites, functionally graded materials and materials which are "designed" in terms of their internal geometry and structure, preferably using multi-material processes, to achieve certain structural or functional properties. In this sense, we also include multi-phase materials that do not strictly match a composite definition, but are characterised by an again "designed" microstructure. Integrated Computational Materials Engineering applied to Additive Manufacturing is thus also within the scope of our symposium.

Besides, we are interested in the development of smart products and structural electronics solutions facilitated by multi-material and/or multi-process Additive Manufacturing concepts.

Within these topics, we do not exclusively look at materials, but also at processes and applications.

Submission of 150-word abstracts is open until March 15th, 2016 via the following link:

In case of questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. For all those of you with an academic background, I might add that we have a virtual special issue of Materials & Design (2014 JCR Impact Factor 3.501) linked to our symposium.

I am very much looking forward to your submissions!

Yours sincerely,

Dirk Lehmhus
