The type of data collection method depends on what type of data you are collecting. Are you trying to find out precise measures (i.e., how many devices are on and for how long) or are you trying to find out attitudes toward energy management projects? For the first example, you may want to investigate technology tracking options and for the second example, you may want to conduct a survey.
