The divorce between Moodle and Blackboard has been announced officially with cross-accusation between the two parties (https://www.insidehighered.com/digital-learning/article/2018/08/01/moodle-and-blackboard-part-ways-amid-shifting-lms-landscape). Actually, for me it was an inevitable divorce because it combined two entities that have two opposite foundations (not in terms of teaching or learning; rather, in terms of business model): open source and proprietary philosophies! But they left a baby whose destiny is not yet known!!
Is there someone who has conducted or supervised research on the two platforms and has a different opinion?

Moodle and Blackboard have parted ways, ending a partnership between two giants in the learning management system marketplace.
The partnership began in 2012 when Blackboard purchased some of the companies working with Moodle . However, since the expected revenues were not actualized during the the past 6 years, people in the Model project decided to break away from Blackboard. However, the business divorce is not going to impact the Moodle and Blackboard based services and they both continue to contribute to education in general and to the open-source community in particular in the future.
