I have to model beam, column, brace and gusset plate in abaqus (which makes my frame) to check the behavior of gusset connection in steel beam and column respectively. I have two question.
1) I am going to use S4R reduced integration element for beam, column and gusset plate. I am using W 14*34 and W 14*90 section as beam and column respectively. I am in confusion that whether I have to make flange and web thickness (as we do in solid element) as well while using shell element ? It should be thin or thick? What would be its thickness? Whether thickness is necessary or not?
2) For brace, I have to do simplified modeling, which model should i use? Shell or truss or frame? However, I don't have to do detail modeling of brace.

For modeling BRB in ABAQUS
you should modeling yielding core , concrete core and steel tube .
Interaction between Yielding core and concrete core is contact without friction ( friction less , normal behavior : Hard contact )
interaction between concrete core and Steel tube is contact with coefficient of friction 0.3 (friction coefficient is 0.3 , normal behavior : Hard contact)
