I am trying to simulate cyclic loading in the steel frame which consists of one beam and two columns. Actually the cyclic load (in lateral direction) is applied using an actuator in practical. My job runs successfully when mesh size of beam and column is 50 mm but when i reduce it to 40 mm, the job gets aborted stating " Too many attempts made for this increment".
The analysis has been terminated due to previous errors. All output requests have been written for the last converged increment.
Abaqus/Standard Analysis exited with an error - Please see the message file for possible error messages if the file exists. ".
I tried following methods but none of them worked
i) Increase IA to 30
ii) Finer mesh in contact region.
Please enlighten the most probable solution when there is decrease in mesh size.

You should do some trail and error values for the step module or you may Increase the time period and the increment size. For more info please follow this link (http://bobcat.nus.edu.sg:2080/English/SIMACAEGSARefMap/simagsa-c-nlnautomatic.htm). Again, set the increment size. then, recreate another job for submission. Finer mesh is also recommended instead of coarse mesh.

I need to do meshing of 20mm but I am stuck in 50mm size.
I have tried some trail and errors even it shows same error.

If you're going to do frame analysis, as you mention on the question one beam and 2 columns. I recommend you not to use ABAQUS/Standard. its better to use for frame FEA in SAP2000 or ETABS. ABAQUS/Standard is suitable for one single element.

"too many attempts made for this increment" is just a generic error message meaning that your solution is non-converging. If you include plasticity (as you do), it might mean that yield is making your model unstable. Reasons can be high loads, or low material strength
1. Ensure node to node connectivity
2. Check non-linearity
3. Assign increments considering cyclic load timing
