Will more people die of causes other than COVID-19 because hospital treatment capacities are overwhelmed by COVID-19? The concern here is with the COVID-19 mortality rate, which is not determined.

As a supposition only, suppose COVID-19 mortality rate of 3% of infected victims. What if there are additional deaths due to inability to treat life-threatening non-COVID-19 cases?

Then instead of just looking at 3% mortality, the direct and indirect mortality combined from COVID-19 would exceed 3%. Is that possible? Is it a concern? If so, how can it be addressed? Is this another impetus for trying to slow spread down?
