The highly conserved 16S rRNA gene sequence has been used as the primary molecular tool for classification of phytoplasmas. However there are some other housekeeping genes have readily placed phytoplasmas in the class of Mollicutes. so what is the difference between a housekeeping gene and a conserved gene? thank you.
