EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

•We have several terms to measure the efficiency/effectiveness of batter & bowler in cricket.

•Batting Average, Bowling Average, Economy rate, Strike Rate of Batter, Strike Rate of Bowler are the usual Performance Metrics in use.

•A new generic term called Figure of Merit ‘FOM’ is introduced in this Presentation to measure the efficiency of all types of cricketers.

•FOM is the Ratio of the actual performance divided by the theoretical maximum possible performance with each ball bowled, expressed as a percentage, as defined by the rules of Cricket.

•FOM concept is based on the Principle of Loss Function and Robust Design, developed by the Japanese Quality Guru Dr. Genichi Taguchi.

•Batting FOM, Bowling FOM, Wicket-Keeping FOM, Fielding FOM have been defined and picturized, which succinctly capture the efficiency / Effectiveness of the Cricketers.

•Please note that all new Metrics are suggested to supplement and not supplant any of the existing ones.
