For parallel flow heat exchanger it is evident from the curve the point where both the temp curves meet heat transfer will stop.So the temp can be found out.But the temp curve for counter flow is different and they wont meet.So how to find out the maximum temp of cold fluid and minimum temp of hot fluid for a counter flow case. Pls provide an illustration with four temp values that will be easier to capture.
The outlet temperature of the cold fluid can approach the highest temperature of the hot fluid (inlet temperature).

Supposing we are dealing with single-phase fluids and roughly constant cp over the temperature lift, it depends on the product of mass flow rate G and the specific heat at constant pressure cp.
If you consider the cpG products, i.e. (cpG) cold and (cpG) hot, the maximum heat which can be transferred is given when the fluidi with the minimum (cpG) goes out of the exchanger with the inlet temperature of the other fluid
So, if the minimum (cpG) is for the cold fluid, it would be heated up to the inlet temperature of the hot fluid. Vice versa, if the hot fluid has the minimum (cpG) product, then it will be cooled down to the inlet temparture of the cold fluid
