You are dealing with the balance of buoyancy forces and friction forces; as buoyancy forces are quite delicate, any friction losses (mainly curves) are to be avoided. The maximum height depends on such factors.
I don't think in solar water heater application thermosyphon is in the classical sense, It is more of a convection water current in a loop of solar panel/piping/tank. As long as the system is full and under pressure from the header tank, the height shouldn't be a problem.
