22Cr duplex stainless steel is widely used in offshore industry in Norwegian sector considering the fact that the crude oil is sweet. The minimum design temperature of 22Cr duplex as per ASME B31.3 "Process Piping Code" is -46 degree C. However, the design temperature of flare line can be less than -46 degree C. That is common to use 6MO instead of 22Cr duplex for flare line capable of withstanding operating temperature of minimum -101 degree C. But, 6MO piping and valves are more expensive that 22Cr duplex. Additionally, 6MO piping should be more robust and be thicker to withstand accoustic fatigue in the flare line.
What other solution is proposed to avoid increasing the cost of material selection in the flare line?
