In my research I want to match 2 groups in their language level (typically developing and autistic adolescents) aged between 11 to 17 years old. I will use Test for Reception of Grammar (TROG) and British Picture Vocabulary Scale (BPVS). I don't know whether to match them in their age equivalent, raw scores or standard scores in TROG and BPVS?
I'd suggest you to make two control groups - one matched by age and one matched by language capability (like King et al. did here: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/1460-6984.12025/abstract )

given that you are interested in language differences between the two groups, it would be best to measure them by age equivalent. That will best enable you to look at actual differences....The real key is what indices are you going to look at across the two groups once you match them? Should be interesting.
I think by drawing out a narrative of each comparison alongside your goal, you will be able to more accurately deduce if you are measuring what you intend. For example, if you match the two groups by age with the standard scores, you are comparing autistic and non-autistic English learners to prove that autism does or does not affect language acquisition based on age. Then, you will want to analyze potentially misleading variables that could affect the validity of the data (i.e. sample size, degree of autism, etc.). I was making up a goal for you, which came at the end of my hypothetical comment. Because all of the potential matches are also potentially valid comparisons, you should clarify what you intend to prove or investigate in your research. Draw out the narratives and clarify the goal of your research, and I think you will find the answer to your question.
