I am doing experiments exposing C.elegans to high glucose. As an osmotic control I use mannose. I did not find any information on the metabolism of mannose so far. Recently I read a paper (Feng, et al. Biochem J, 2013) stating that mannose is also taken up by the glucose transporter FGT-1 into the cells. Does anyone have experience in experimenting with mannose? Which osmotic controls do you use instead? I also read about the use of sorbitol as an osmotic control. It is increasing life span and induces an osmotic response (Chandler-Brown, et al. Front Gen, 2015). Thanks in advance for your advice!
