Most of researches do research and publish a paper...what is use...if it is not comes into a picture of a product or application..through oral everyone can say..this can be used for this one....what's big deal in that?.........why people making such papers and building their career and getting their research points....
Publishing papers through research should not always be looked upon as a possible tool for career making because it also gives immense pleasure to the researcher. Making any useful product for mankind is definitely a great achievement. All academic research cannot lead to product making useful to general people but might help other researchers in future in doing so.
Both are important.
Some people get their kicks from making products, others from making knowledge. (Some do both)
