I'm looking for a commercial supplier where I can purchase magnetic nanoparticles with an affinity for thiol bonds. So either a core-shell structure or an alloy are both fine. Does anyone have any good suggestions?
... not sure if such particles are available commercially. I recommend to ask chemicell (Berlin, Germany) or micromod (Rostock, Germany).

Do you mean affinity for free thiols?
If so, you can take amine modified nanoparticles and treat them with maleimide-NHS crosslinkers available from Pierce.
It is easier to find microparticles than NP, but take a look at Polysciences or Bangs Laboratories. Nano-H can also provide custom NP, see www.nano-h.com
Our lab can offer you (no costs) magnetite NPs with hydrophobic or hydrophilic coating, to try their affinity to thiol bonds. Also, I suggest to contact Prof. E. Tombacz from Univ. of Szeged (Hungary)("Etelka Tombacz" ) and Dr. Rodica Turcu ([email protected]) from Inst. for Isotopic and Molecular Technologies from Cluj-Napoca (Romania) for more complex nanostructured magnetic particles with various surface properties (affinities).

It will be very simple to prepare. Just synthesize iron oxide(Fe3O4) nanoparticles or silica coated Fe3O4 and react them with MPTMS to introduce thiol group. This thiol group will target the disulfide bonds by thiol-disulfide exchange reaction, which is a covalent interaction. Is this you want? or you want affinity reaction which can be easily broken down?

Although I didn't find excactly what I was looking for, I got some new ideas which are probably easier to accomplish than my original idea :)
FePt-nanoparticle are very easy to be synthesized in any amount needed. Please refer to the literature for the exact procedure or contact me again. These particle are magnetic and should have some affinity to thiols (after exchange of the amine shell from synthesis).
Hi Sachin, do you get your particles commercially or do you make them yourselve? I'm looking for something commercially available because I don't want to make them myself... ;)
