Hello. Does anyone know any research that relieves information about how low educated adults assess or view their experiences about their initiale education? How are their experiences with initiale schooling? Thanks.
An interesting example are the different Roma groups, spread as minorities over different countries. They are in many cases among the most lowly educated if we use the formal perspective of schooling, but can be very skilled in other ways, as in arts, as artisans and in business. The general standard of living is generally lower than mainstream population.
Many Roma children seem to not finish basic education at all, as the tradition often is that some reading, writing and counting are skills enough. Family and ethnic group priorities are often prioritised before school attendance - and discrimination of different kinds seems to be part of the picture as well. As I understand it, they are often not so sure that education merits is a way to a good life at all. Their experiences of basic schooling underscores this.
Then these groups are often targeted for adult education solutions, and participates, but often not in the same way and with same objectives as the mainstream adult student.
See the attached project report and article For reseach I have been involved in.
An interesting comparison is the Jewish minorities in different countries. They have had similar conditions as minorities, and have also often been discriminated persecuted and despised, However, Jewish minorities views education in a totally other way, with other results.

Hello Simon, in the document form NALA I can see on p. 32 the sentence: Some learners may have had a negative experience in the formal school system... - but what I am looking for, are specific statements by adults about the situation in initial education.
