Dear nanotechnology and immunology colleagues,
I am interested in obtaining single domain antibodies but cannot find many sources in Europe. A company in the US replied to my email enquiry but it looks like it will cost $40K to get them to raise a sdAb to the protein target we desire. Can anyone advise on any academic institutions who are making sdAbs who would be interested in a collaboration involving nanoparticles and pancreatic cancer? Or alternatively a commercial company with a slightly more palatable price tag?

Which companies have you contacted? In the US we know that BioLegend has a few VHH fragments but the largest catalog of single domain Abs we list at this time is Creative BioLabs

In Europe, you might check with Synaptic Systems (SySy), as they are now offering some. Also, both Creative BioLabs and Rockland Immunochemicals offer custom sdAb development services. Hope this helps.
In Germany, you might contact Prof. Hanack at the University of Potsdam. Perhaps she is interested in a collaboration.

Check at the german company NanoTag (www.nano-tag.com) it has its own portofolio and offer academic services for ~15k€ depending the difficulty of the project.

I contacted Prof Hanack in Germany as per Michael Weller's answer above. Their university spin off is http://neweramabs.com/. Our particular project would have cost about 15k euros. Alas, this project is on the back burner for now, my PhD focused on other aspects of targeted nanoparticles for cancer surgery and time/money didn't allow for exploring sdAbs. I will keep Alpaca Bob in mind for the future!
