Do you know if there are standards concerning the maximum limits for content of non metallic inclusions, particularily in austenitic stainless steel? Or it is enough for steel suppliers to make sure chemical composition meets the requirements of certain standards?
Michal, the amount of non-metallic inclusions allowed to be present in any steel are related to the application.For certain applications, no cleanliness requirements are needed. But there are other applications were very restrictive ones are imposed, and this has a direct impact in the processing of the material. You could find several standards to assess cleanliness.

in addition to above comments: the steel suppliers also consider the maximum size of inclusions as one of the tools for monitoring a heat and this maximum size of inclusions is predicted based upon statistical models.
