what is the limitation for Clausius-Mossotti relation?? is that applicable for all the crystal structure??. If the material is an organic single crystal, how well this suits for it
Limitations of the Clausius-Mossotti Equation. It is derived based on following assumptions.
Polarization is considered as proportional to the field.
The polarizable molecules are isotropic.
Absence of short-range interaction.
The above mentioned conditions are satisfied with neutral molecules having no constant dipoles (i.e. non-polar). Therefore the above equation is applicable to neutral liquids and specially to gases.
Clausius-Mossotti Equation is not applicable to strong solutions and solids.
